why is it that we, as human beings, have an innate desire to be known, understood, accepted and loved?
obviously that's a rhetorical question if there ever was one. but right now today, it's just on my mind.
i consider myself quite the independent person when it comes to certain things. other things, i'm nowhere near independent. and then there are times, like this week where some of my 'tough' independence slowly starts melting away.
for the past week my roommates have been out of town and will be for another week. i actually don't mind being alone or living on my own - i've done it before. but after some time (and granted, i'm only working 11 hours a week, 2 days a week), it can get to me. being in a place that's completely silent. no visitors. no tv (it doesn't work and if it did, i wouldn't watch it anyway...hate tv). no friends across the hall in other apartments. i really don't like movies a whole bunch, but i've watched about 4 this past week and that's a lot for me - i think i've had my fill for the next month! i love reading, but reading in a home that's empty and silent almost makes it more of a realization of how alone you are.
i know, i know. this all sounds sappy and like a big fat complaint...which it kinda is...but that's not the point.
the point is that we really do have an influence on others. small things can brighten someone's day. i have had many other experiences other than this past week or so to let me come to my own understanding of that. i hope that i can more constantly remember this and look around me and see who could use some help, albeit small, from me.
